Skin Paster

Skin Paster is a media art screening featuring a BJ(broadcasting jockey)  wearing 3D mask of a girl and hosting a personal Internet broadcasting show in a live web cam. As the show continues, BJ adjusts to various technical difficulties due to limits on diffusion level quality in the software and the personalized broadcasting system. For instance, BJ makes exaggerated gestures to show expressions through 3D avatar or the camera tracking fails to match BJ with the avatar. Skin Paster uses the expertise level of technology such as AR, 3D modeling, body tracking sensor, and etc. This might seem far from the exhibition, Low technology. But, just like the word itself, the low technology can be anything that is doable with whichever low-quality technologies we have. Only five years age from now, it was impossible for general public to use motion-capturing technology; however, today anyone can easily operate or manipulate it through a personal game camera. Also the 3D avatar used in Skin Paster is the open-sourced material distributed on Internet that people can easily collect from the web. Our society, including technology, is shifting from low and high to narrow and broad by people who share/develop new things from solving the problems in fixed areas.
